Overview

The municipal town, Torremolinos is located on the Costa del Sol in the Mediterranean. This is situated in the Malaga province in Andalusia autonomous region in southern Spain. This was a very poor fishing village; however the advent of tourism in the 1950s has transformed it totally. It was the first to develop in the Costa del Sol resorts. This city has a large population of British expatriates and is highly popular with British citizens.

History

The early settlements in this city were in the Neolithic Age and archaeological findings – tools, pottery and human bones have confirmed this.

Ptolemy, the Roman/ Egyptian geographer has stated that the colony Saduce was founded by the Phoenicians here but the findings of necropolis and edifices indicate that the Romans were responsible for finding this town. The road between Malaga and Cadiz via Torremolinos was also constructed by them.
Climate

The average temperatures in a year are as follows:

Maximum – 27 °C in the month of August
Minimum – 13 °C in December-February

Sports and Entertainment

1.Tivoli World – is the largest theme park in Costa del Sol which is located at a distance of 3 KM from this city. Adults and children can select any of the 12 rides. There are flamenco shows and concerts.
2.Sea Life – is an aquarium with an educational section – touch pool where children can handle starfish and crabs; they can also watch the tiny sharks with magnifying glasses.
3.Aquapark – is a water park for the family and has 30 rides. The Kamikaze chute is blood curdling.
4.Equestrian Show – is a weekly show with explanations in Spanish and English.
Tourism has also brought lots of buildings and the town was urbanized because of it. In order to neutralize this urbanization, lots of public gardens have been created. Large number of trees ranging from banana trees to magnolia were planted and the number of types of trees is more than 1000. There are 3 forests having freshwater springs and they have facilities for barbecue.
This place was popular among masses due to package holidays and gained the name – bucket and spade. However, it is a very popular tourist destination in Costa del Sol.  It is famous for nightlife and there are many bars and restaurants. It also has a large number of gay tourists.
